    Gold Standard Program
     
    The Gold Standard Program is designed for freshman and sophomore students as the keystone between National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) in middle school to the National Honor Society (NHS) program for juniors and seniors. Gold Standard is intended to create and continue enthusiasm for academic scholarship, stimulate a desire to serve others, promote leadership, and develop character of high school students in grades 9 and 10.   
      
    The Gold Standard program is created to bridge the gap between NJHS, which is composed of students in grades sixth through eighth, and NHS for students in grades 11 and 12. In addition to the implementation of the Gold Standard program, National Honor Society, previously reserved for seniors only, is being expanded to include juniors, thus creating a continuous pathway of recognition and support for students who are academic achievers and service leaders.

    The Gold Standard program will act separately from NHS, yet will implement many of the same qualities found in National Honor Society. Students in the Gold Standard program will have completed 12 hours of community service within the last month of the application process, maintained the cumulative scholastic average of 85 percent, exemplified leadership skills and demonstrated high moral character. The Gold Standard is a great opportunity for students in grades 9 and 10 to maintain academic standards to prepare them for NHS. This is the district’s first honors program for freshman and sophomores.
