    Advanced Academic Programs Handbook

  • Advanced Placement (AP)

AP courses are college-level courses offered in high schools. They follow a standardized curriculum developed by the College Board. Students who enroll in AP courses have the opportunity to earn college credit by taking the corresponding AP exams at the end of the course. AP courses are widely recognized by colleges and universities, and successful performance on AP exams can result in advanced placement or credit in college.

    Dual Credit

Dual Credit programs allow high school students to earn both high school and college credits simultaneously. These programs are typically offered in partnership between high schools and colleges or universities. Students take college-level courses taught either at their high school or on the college campus. Successful completion of these courses allows students to earn credits that are recognized by the partnering college or university. Dual Credit programs provide students with an opportunity to get a head start on their college education and potentially reduce the time and cost required to complete a degree.

    OnRamps

OnRamps is an innovative program that offers dual enrollment courses to high school students in collaboration with the University of Texas at Austin. These courses are designed to mirror the rigor and content of college-level courses. OnRamps courses are taught by certified high school teachers who receive training and support from the university. Students who successfully complete OnRamps courses earn both high school and college credits. OnRamps aims to provide equitable access to higher education and prepare students for the demands of college-level work.
