• Inclement Weather Procedures and Notification

Anytime the possibility of inclement weather is forecast, our district emergency management team actively monitors weather, temperatures, and road conditions as the situation develops. We work closely with local emergency management personnel including the National Weather Service, Texas Department of Transportation, and our city and county law enforcement to determine the impact of impending weather on school and school activities. When winter weather strikes, district administrators also drive roads throughout the district to assess travel conditions for the safety of buses and all drivers to and from our schools and buildings.

Once a decision is made regarding school and/or activities, we will begin notifying our community as quickly and as early as possible. In the event of a delay or school closure, the district will use several communication avenues to notify parents, students, and staff. The automated phone call/text and Remind text messaging systems will be activated first, along with postings on social media. The information also will be posted on the EMS ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÉç website and all school websites, then local television and radio outlets will be notified. If you recently changed phone numbers and have not notified the district, please make certain your contact information is accurate in Skyward by reviewing Family Access or contacting your child's campus.

If no announcements of campus closings or delays are made, it should be assumed the district will operate as normal.

Normal procedure in the district is not to close schools early once students are in attendance. This is for the safety and well-being of all students, since many students may not have someone at home if they are released early. Weather and road conditions can vary greatly from area to area. As a result, parents are the final decision makers regarding their son/daughter's attendance. Please notify the school office if your son/daughter will not be in school or should be dismissed early due to weather conditions (standard attendance policies apply). Please keep in mind that phone lines at the schools may be busy on inclement weather days.

In the event of a decision to close or delay school, initial messages will be sent using the following forms of electronic media:

    • District Website: www.emsisd.com

Note: If you consent to receive information through a landline or wireless phone, please ensure that you notify the school’s administration office immediately upon a change in your phone number. The district or school may generate automated or pre-recorded messages, text messages, or real-time phone or e-mail communications that are closely related to the school’s mission, so prompt notification of any change in contact information will be crucial to maintain timely communication with you. Standard messaging rates of your phone carrier may apply.
