ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÉç is pleased to announce that Heather Smith has been named the new principal of Northbrook Elementary School. Smith has 25 years of experience in public education, and currently serves as the interim principal at Northbrook.
Smith began her career teaching in California before moving to Texas 22 years ago. She spent 20 years as a fifth-grade teacher, teaching in Lake Worth ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÉç and at Parkview Elementary School in EMS ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÉç. She then transitioned into the role of assistant principal at Willow Creek Elementary School and served in the same role at Copper Creek Elementary School, before taking over as interim principal at Northbrook earlier this year.
“Heather Smith stepped into the interim principal role at Northbrook this year without missing a beat and has a done a wonderful job working with our Blazers to ensure a successful school year,” said Dr. Audrey Arnold, EMS ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÉç Executive Director of Elementary Services. “She is a hands-on leader who is engaged with her students and staff. She has a passionate pride for Northbrook, and we’re excited for the positive direction in which her leadership will continue guiding the school.”
Smith earned an associate degree in communications from BYU-Idaho, and a bachelor's degree in advertising, broadcasting, and public relations from Southern Utah University. She earned a teaching certification from California State University Bakersfield, and her master’s degree in education administration and policy study from The University of Texas at Arlington.
“My students have always been the driving factors in the decisions I make as an educator. Working at Northbrook over the last few months has been like coming home. These students, this community, and the staff have my heart,” Smith said.
Heather married her high school sweetheart, Brian almost 30 years ago. They have one son, Zachery and a daughter-in-law, Bailey. When she is not working, Heather enjoys reading mystery novels, baking, and spending time with her family.
