Congratulations to Erwin Comullo for becoming a U.S. citizen!
Comullo, a custodian at Bryson Elementary, is originally from the Philippines and moved to the United States in 2013. He began working at Bryson in 2014, and he is described as someone who always goes above and beyond for students and staff.
The national labor shortage has caused Comullo and others in his position to work overtime this year. Some days he works from 6 am to 6 pm or comes in during the weekend to get his job done. Despite long hours, Comullo found time to study and pass his U.S. citizenship test by watching YouTube videos.
The father of four said he was nervous during his test but passed it easily. On Thursday, October 20, he was officially granted U.S. citizenship.
“It’s a sacrifice,” said Michelle Cox, lead custodian at Bryson Elementary. “He left his family behind to provide for them.”
Comullo said he wants to offer his children more opportunities by giving them a chance to come to the U.S. So far, his oldest son, 25, is living in Arlington.
Bryson Elementary celebrated his accomplishment with gifts, and fifth-grade classes clapped for Comullo in the hallways.
