    Students should not return to school until they are fever-free for 24 hours without needing fever-reducing medication like ibuprofen or acetaminophen. Medications containing aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid, ASA, salicylate) should not be given to students with a fever or viral illness because of the danger of Reye’s syndrome in children and young people. This includes such products as Pepto-Bismol, Kaopectate, Excedrin, BC Powder, etc.
