• Our goal is to create a safe and nurturing environment where learning can take place, where students can be challenged to excel, and where individual responsibility is developed. To better achieve this goal, we have enacted some policies and procedures. Please use the menu to the left to access information regarding these policies and procedures.

  • Visiting our School

All visitors must check-in at the office with a state-issued picture ID where they will receive a Visitor's Pass to wear while in the school. Often parents visit during lunch time and join their children in the cafetorium. Siblings are welcome to accompany parents during this time. Parents and their children will sit at a table set up for lunch with family members.

  • Enrolling a Student

To enroll a student, a parent or guardian will need to contact our office and learn more about online registration. During the summer, specific days and times are posted on the website for registration. Please be prepared to provide home and work phone numbers, physician contact information, and emergency contact information (relative or neighbor). The following records will need to be brought to the school so that copies can be made:

    • Report card from previous school (if applicable)
    • Official Birth Certificate (not issued by hospital)
    • Up-to-date record of immunizations (shot record)
    • Child's Social Security Card
    • Proof of residence (i.e., a current gas, electric, or water bill showing name and address or housing/rental contract, mortgage or rent receipts for current or previous month)
    • Valid Texas Driver's License or Identification Card of parent or guardian with address that matches proof of residence

Certified Birth Certificate and Driver's License Renewal/Update

would like to remind parents that they can order their child’s certified birth certificate online from the State’s official website. At this site, a new driver's license with an updated address can also be ordered.

The , offered in English and Spanish, provides parents with a convenient, secure option for ordering a birth certificate. The order is fulfilled by the Texas Department of State Health Services, and the cost is $22, the same price as a walk-in or mail order.

  • Withdrawing a Student

To withdraw a student, a parent or guardian should contact the Bryson office at least two days prior to the student's last day. This will allow time for the teacher and registrar to prepare dismissal records, collect school items such as textbooks and library books, and clear any cafeteria accounts. After ensuring that any fees and/or fines have been paid, the parent or guardian will be provided with a form which indicates that the student has been withdrawn that can be used to help enroll the student in the new school. Full records will be sent to the new school upon request of the school.

  • Student Attendance Guidelines

Absences:  Regular school attendance is essential for a student to make the most of his or her education–to benefit from teacher-led and school activities, to build each day’s learning on the previous day’s, and to grow as an individual. Absences from class may result in serious disruption of a student’s mastery of the instructional materials; therefore, the student and parent should make every effort to avoid unnecessary absences.

According to state attendance regulations, we must have a parent letter or doctor’s note for any student absence within five days of the absence. While your phone calls are greatly appreciated, they do not excuse an absence. Parent notes should be emailed to the attendance secretary and the student’s homeroom teacher.  Please reference the student’s first and last name along with the absence date and reason.

Absences are excused for illness, appointments with a health care professional (with a note or receipt from the health care professional), serious illness or death of a member of the student’s immediate family, or an emergency that prevents the student from being in school. Upon return to school, a student absent for more than five consecutive days because of a personal illness must bring a statement from a doctor or health clinic verifying the illness or condition that caused the student’s extended absence from school. Otherwise, the student’s absence may be considered unexcused and, if so, would be considered to be in violation of compulsory attendance laws.

If a student develops a questionable pattern of absences, the principal or attendance committee may require a statement from a doctor or health clinic verifying the illness or condition that caused the student’s absence from school in order to determine whether the absence or absences will be excused or unexcused.

District attendance letters will be sent home per district policy. Attendance letters are required by state law in order to make parents aware of a student’s attendance. If you have any questions about your child’s attendance record at any time please contact the school office.

Appointments:  When your child has a doctor or dental appointment, please get a note from the doctor to excuse the time away from school.  If your child arrives after 10:00 a.m. without a doctor's note, it will be counted as an absence, not a tardy. If your child leaves school before 10:00 a.m. and does not return later in the school day, a doctor’s note must be received or they will be considered absent for the day.

Please do not call and ask that a student wait in the office before you arrive to school. To avoid loss of instructional time, the parent must be in the office before a student will be called from class for an appointment. No child will be called from class after 2:30 p.m. unless you have a family emergency. Please plan appointments accordingly.

Tardies:   A student will be considered tardy or late if they are not in his or her classroom when the 7:30 am tardy bell rings.  According to state attendance law, tardies are considered a partial day absence, so please be mindful of the number of tardies your child receives. A large amount of tardies can negatively affect your student’s overall attendance record and result in lunch detention.

  • Medication Policy

Students who must take medication at school must send the medication to school in its original container and must have the appropriate form brought to school with it. These forms can be printed from this site. The Prescription Medication Form must be signed by the physician prescribing the medication. The OTC Medication Form is used when over the counter medicine is sent to school. The form and medication must be brought to the clinic where it will be kept in a locked cabinet until it is administered. A log is kept of all medications given at school. Over the counter medication will not be given more than 10 times without a physician's signature.
