• What is Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA)?

Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is a condition in which the heart suddenly and unexpectedly stops beating. If this happens, blood stops flowing to the brain and other vital organs.  SCA usually causes death if it’s not treated within minutes. SCA is the second leading cause of death in the young and 40% of athletes show a variety of abnormal ECG patterns.

Warning signs and symptoms of a heart condition:

    • Fainting or seizure during or after physical activity or resulting from emotional excitement, emotional distress or startle.
    • Chest pain or discomfort/racing heartbeat.
    • Unexplained fainting or seizures.
    • Unusual shortness of breath, fatigue.
    • Dizziness or lightheadedness during or after physical activity.
    • Family history of heart disease, unexpected sudden death during physical activity or during a seizure or any other sudden, unexplained death of a healthy family member under age 50

    What is an ECG (electrocardiogram)?

ECG is a test that measures the electrical activity of the heart. The heart is a muscular organ that beats in rhythm to pump the blood through the body. The signals that make the heart's muscle fibers contract come from the sinoatrial node, which is the natural pacemaker of the heart.

Undetected heart conditions kill thousands of youth each year. Prevent sudden cardiac arrest in youth. Early detection can save lives! Sign your child up for an ECG today!
